TITLE OF POSITION: School Counselor– Middle School 
 (To work with At-Risk Students) 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate or Counseling Certification
• Team Player
• Positive Attitude
• Excellent interpersonal communication skills
• Technology Expertise
• Demonstrated experience in school counseling programs/ASCA National Model
• Understanding of 31A/At-Risk identification and funding

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Establish and lead small groups
• Deliver classroom lessons to meet unique needs of student population
• Develop interventions and plans for students at-risk
• Target and support students and families in crisis
• Support for students with truancy concerns
• Incorporate Case management model for addressing failures
• Individual social emotional and academic counseling
• Parent and Community – School liaison
• Work with students that have experienced trauma impacting their education
• Coordinate and support students with 504 plans
• Train staff to assist students that are experiencing difficulties in school due to trauma and other outside factors
• Work with the Student Assistance Team to implement academic and behavioral interventions
